Benefits of a nursing bra before pregnancy?

Someone suggested that I should start wearing a nursing bra while I'm pregnant (I'm almost 26 weeks). I really love my old, worn in Lane Bryant pushup bras. :) Is there really a benefit to wearing a nursing bra now or can I wait until the baby is born to switch? What did you do?

THERE WOULD BE NO REASON OTHER THEN TO HAVE THAT EXTRA SUPPORT THAT YOU WILL NEED WHILE YOU ARE PREGNANT...IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO YET THEN DONT...IF YOU DO THEN DO...IT IS SIMPLY YOUR CHOICE.

My Dr. told me its a matter of comfort right now. If your bras are not hurting you or causing you any discomfort, I say keep wearing them. Now, my Dr. told me the further along in my pregnancy to stop wearing underwire because it can cause problems with the ducts becoming clogged and such.

It doesn’t matter. Wear whatever you want! A nursing bra may have been recommended because women leak colostrum sometimes before giving birth and it makes it easy to slip in and out nursing pads, but besides that, wear whatever makes you comfortable. But in the nursing bra defense, they give alot of support!

I don’t think there is any reason that you HAVE to. They may start to be more comfortable. When you do decide to buy one, don’t buy one that has under wire in it. They say that the underwire can cause your milk ducts to stop producing milk because of the constant pressure.

If your boobs should start leaking colstrum, it might be more comfortable to have a nursing bra, since you can put those pads into it to hide those little leaks.

I wear a loose sport bra myself, because it is the most comfy.

No benefit at all. I mean, if it’s a good bra then go right ahead, but a nursing bra is precisely to be used for nursing. This is my second pregnancy and I will tell you, it’s best to go with your regular bras than to go straight into a nursing bra. You might want to wear it a few times just to get used to the way they work, but trust me, is no rocket science…..I’m pretty sure you already know how they work.

What they should’ve suggested to you was wearing a full support bra. Your breasts WILL change during and after pregnancy. If you wear bras that don’t provide enough support to your breasts, just picture what they will look like. Remember that once you start nursing, your breasts will engorge due to the storage of milk. Every time you nurse your child, the breasts will diflate. It’ll be an up and down all the time until you stop nursing. This is a lot of work in your body, so I would suggest getting a good supporting bra. Normally, the ones with at least two hooks on the back work best. You don’t want your girls dragging all the way down to the floor…..well, you get the picture. Meanwhile, go for some sportsbras for night time (this is highly suggested). Wearing sports bras (not too tight though) at night actually helped my breasts regain almost the pre-pregnancy shape. They’ll never be the same, but at least you can do some things to diminish the changes in the way they look.

Keep some soaking pads handy just in case you start "leaking" before your birth. These can be worn under your regular bras. You’ll need them after the birth.

I think the only benefit is that if you happen to need a new bra, buy a nursing one so that you can still use it when the baby is born. If you’re more comfortable in your old bras then don’t worry about it!

No……….as long as your comfortable, switch when you want. I only started wearing one, because I grew so much and the nursing bra I got was just so much more comfortable.

Of course, you need it when your nursing, but before it’s really only for comfort.

There is no reason you need to change bras. Really the only difference in them is the ability to easily pull out a breast, lol. Some people say nursing bras provide more support, but that is just b/c they are built bigger. Wearing a nursing bra that is a D cup is about the same as wearing a normal bra that is a DD/E cup.
The underwire advice from others is totally true, especially if your wearing a normal bra b/c they are going to be snugger. Even if the underwire bra fits great, remember that when you do a breast exam, you feel to your armpits, b/c breast tissue is there too so it’s going to get smushed by underwire.
